Austin E. Jones,
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Magna Cum Laude Graduate - Psychology - Samford University
Master of Social Work - Mental Health Concentration - University of Alabama
Austin came to Memphis in the summer of 1999 and began working at Lakeside Behavioral Health System as a Child & Adolescent Therapist. By the time he left Lakeside in the summer of 2006, Austin provided therapy services in the Inpatient, Day Treatment, and Intensive Outpatient levels of care. In addition, Austin not only served as a Therapist, but also as Coordinator for Social Services, Clinical Manager, Program Director, and Program Administrator. Austin joined the Transformation Counseling Center in June 2006 as the Clinical Director for the Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program and adolescent female Intensive Outpatient Program.
His counseling interests are:
Psychiatric Disorders Eating Disorders, Mood Disorders, ADHD, Anxiety, etc.
Children & Adolescents, Parent Education & Family Therapy, Communication & Conflict Resolution. Play Therapy, Anger management.
In his own words:
When helping Adolescent and Young Adult females with Eating Disorders I offer a Supportive, Cognitive-Behavioral approach with an emphasis on involving the family in the therapy process. I believe honesty, trust, and consistency are paramount and critical for recovery. In addition, I work with clients to improve their self-esteem, body image, and to challenge their cognitive distortions and negative behaviors that might be contributing to their Eating Disorder. Treatment for Eating Disorders is often a slow and involved process requiring a multi-disciplinary approach. Therefore, I work closely with a Registered Dietitian, Psychiatrist, Yoga Specialist, Certified Stott Pilates Instructor and Massage Therapist to provide an individualized comprehensive approach for each client.
When working with children I offer a variety of approaches from Play Therapy to Behavior Modification and Family/Parent Education. I also believe strongly in coordinating with the school system and will make myself available to work collaboratively with whomever in the best interest of the child.
For Adolescents, I tend to offer more of a Supportive, Solution-Focused approach with elements of Cognitive-Behavioral and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. However, because working with an Adolescent's family is very important to the success of therapy I ask for parent involvement to continue at home what is started in the therapy office. For example, I will help parents develop responsibilities, expectations, privileges, behavior contracts, circle programs, etc., in an effort to help their Adolescent get on track and stay on track.
Christina Burns, Director of Counseling Services IOPP
LPC/MHSP
Christina Burns received her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from The University of Mississippi. She has worked as a therapist in the Memphis area since 1998 in a variety of settings, including Saint Francis Hospital’s Adult Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment Programs, and Lakeside’s Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric Psychiatric Treatment Programs. Her experience ranges from inpatient treatment, crisis intervention, intensive outpatient treatment, and private practice. Christina has been in private practice since 2002. Her focus is on Adolescent and Women’s Issues. She joined the team at The Transformation Center for Women in July of 2007 to help create and implement a treatment program to meet the mental health needs of adolescent females in the Memphis area.
In her own words:
“Years ago, I started working with adolescents almost by accident. It’s been an amazingly rewarding twist of fate. Quite frankly, being a teenager is difficult. Having survived life as an adolescent female, one quote comes to mind. “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” When I enter a therapy relationship with a young woman, I understand it takes effort on my part to show myself as trustworthy and compassionate. It’s an honor and a privilege to have someone trust you enough to share with you the painful parts of her life. I take that honor very seriously and make it my life’s work to help her find new ways to work through whatever issues have brought her my way.”
Mary Margaret Johnson

In her own words:
"Counseling and joining the journey to wholeness with other women and their families is my passion. It is humbling and exciting. There is no more rewarding thing in the world to me than helping women unravel the complexities of life so that they might live the life they were created to live. I am able to help others learn who they really are and to become free and authentic individuals. It is important that my clients see my compassion as sincere and that their lives are precious. They are worthy of more than seeking quick fixes to life’s complexities. Such a journey is not without trials, but the end result is worth it all."

Teri Hardister McCann Ph.D.

Her calm and relaxed personal style and holistic approach to the individual needs of each client are beneficial to the therapeutic relationship and healing. Dr. McCann works with individuals and groups and can provide a range of psychological and diagnostic testing and assessments. Vocational testing includes career assessment and guidance. Dr. McCann completed her doctoral dissertation on Food Cognitions Among Grade School Children which coincides with her interest in working with patients with eating disorders. She also has a special interest in the social and emotional needs of gifted and talented children.
In her own words
The journey through adolescence and into adulthood is often challenging for adolescent females. Conflicting messages and social stressors are routine. The interaction between life experiences and the biological influences that lead to depression and maladaptive behavior is complex. My role as part of The Transformations IOP for Adolescent Females is to provide empathic therapeutic interventions focused on uncovering pain and replacing maladaptive behavior with healthy alternatives. Ultimately, the goal of a successful treatment program is to bring order to life’s chaos and to replace despair with hope. As a therapist, I am trained to provide a client-centered approach that seeks to resolve problems before they escalate. Work with adolescent girls is especially rewarding because of the opportunity to provide positive changes that will last a lifetime. My interest in working with clients with eating disorders arose naturally out of my interest in working with young women. Early in my career, while working with older adolescents and young adults at a college counseling center, I became aware of the “epidemic” nature of eating disorders on college campuses. In an effort to try to understand how children’s food cognitions contribute to maladaptive eating patters and eating disorders, I devoted my doctoral research to understanding how children think about food and make food choices. The Transformation Center allows me to practice psychology in a unique and holistic environment that allows self-discovery and healing in an atmosphere of safety and tranquility.
Susan M. Hulett,
MS RD LDN
Licensed Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist
Magna Cum Laude Rosary College (now Dominican University)
Masters- Northern Illinois University
Clinical Internship- Ingalls Hospital, Harvey, Illinois
Susan has had the opportunity to work in a variety of setting including private practice, clinical practice, and community dietetics. She has counseled and helped hundreds of individuals change their eating behaviors and reduce their risk of developing degenerative diseases. Counseling individuals with medical diagnoses through medical nutrition therapy remains a large part of her practice. This includes treating individuals who have eating disorders, diabetes, weight management problems as well as other medical diagnoses. Preventing the onset of diseases through improved nutrition is of paramount importance.
Working at the Transformation Center eating disorders program has been very challenging and rewarding. Establishing improved eating patterns and meeting the individualized needs of each patient both nutritionally and psychological brings a more balanced lifestyle to those suffering from eating disorders. Many patients find it amazing that eating healthy doesn’t lead to putting on excess weight. The sense of improved well being through the stabilization of body weight and improved nutrition often leads to maintenance of changed behaviors.
Susan’s philosophy is one of empowering individuals with the knowledge they need so that they are able to take what they have learned and accomplished through nutrition therapy and apply it to their daily life long after therapy has ended. Her approach is highly individualized with the goal being lifestyle change that works for the individual.
She is able to deliver state-of-the-art medical nutrition therapy with a focus on practical solutions.

In her own words:
“I believe the way we treat our bodies affects us mentally and spiritually as well as physically.
I believe that every body is different with different nutritional and physical needs, and those needs change throughout the stages of life. She has worked in a variety of settings in Memphis and Jackson, TN, focusing primarily on work with adolescents. She is currently working with adolescents in long term alcohol and drug treatment (residential). Jennifer was excited to join the team at The Transformation Center for Women in March of 2008 to provide art therapy services for the adolescent females in the program.
In her own words:
"Given the challenges of communication for teenagers, art therapy can often bridge the gap for adolescents and assist them with processing about their emotions. This can help them express their feelings more effectively, bring their true feelings to the surface, and sometimes enhance discussions with their families. Most of all, art can be a fun way to promote therapeutic rapport/ relationships. I usually work in my sessions to use whatever works to try to help my clients get their voices heard. Tom Robbins the author probaby said it best when he wrote, 'In the haunted house of life, art is the only stair that doesn't creak.'"

Her clinical background includes; residential services, foster care, school setting, juvenile detention, and private practice. Brandy’s long term goals consist of gaining her Ph.D., having a private practice and becoming a mental health consultant.
In her own words:
"Becoming a mental health therapist was not on my top five things list of what I want to be when I grow up. During one of my times of having a job while finding a career, I was a substitute teacher in a high school setting. During this time, my students felt that they could come to me and speak about certain things that was going on with them that they could not speak to their parents or school counselor about. When I addressed this to the principal about students having a great need to talk to somebody, he stated to me that he knew the kids were coming to me and how I had a great impact on some of their lives. He suggested that I should think about going into the field of counseling. Well, three years after that conversation I graduated with Masters in counseling and have not looked back. I love what I do, and I want to continue to expand in this field by learning everything that there is to learn. I believe that one of my purposes in life is to help those who are in need mentally and to help guide them in the right direction."

My interest in health, fitness, and wellness for women blossomed during my recovery from an eating disorder and exercise addiction. During my recovery I became passionate about spreading the message that bodies can be fit and beautiful in many shapes and sizes. Our self-worth and significance is not defined by our body size or how many hours we spend exercising! Engaging in exercise and physical activity doesn't need to be about striving for a different body; rather, it can be a gift to ourselves: a way to feel energized, comfortable, and confident in the body we were blessed with.
You are the expert on you, and I am the expert on fitness; together we will develop a personalized fitness program that's right for you! No two bodies are the same, and everyone's needs are different. We'll work together to create a program that benefits your mind and body. I invite you to join me at The Transformation Center for Women so we can get started on a program that will empower you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence that will enable you to achieve your personal fitness goals and experience the joys of nurturing your mind and body in an encouraging, and truly unique atmosphere.

life lessons.
1. Looking our
best is important to everyone but being truly fit and healthy directly
impacts our real quality of life.
2. Our attitudes
about life and what we believe about ourselves are affected by our body
image and how we take care of our health.
3. Fitness is fun
and rewarding but it is also vital preventative health care.
“I knew that I was
genetically predisposed toward health problems and in my late 20’s I
decided to change my lifestyle. That led to becoming a personal trainer,
a fitness competitor, fitness model and building a career helping others
discover the benefits and joys of a truly healthy life. Had I not taken
this path I know that my health at 40 would be vastly different than
what I now enjoy. I would love to help you achieve your goals for a
healthy rewarding life.”

Leadership in any fitness program is very
important. I know that with the right direction and plenty of
encouragement, each of my clients will benefit not only physically,
but also psychologically. Being physically fit helps you feel better
from the inside out. In fact, each of our psychological counselors
here at the Transformation Center for Women Transformation
Center incorporate physical training into their therapy programs. I
received my Personal Trainer Certification from the internationally
recognized Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas. I am also currently
working on my degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. I enjoy
exercising and staying in shape. More than that though, I enjoy
working with people to achieve their own optimal personal fitness
and encouraging them to do so by setting reasonable goals that are
truly attainable. It would be my privilege to work with you and to
help you become a healthier and happier person.

Paula Ring
Licensed Massage Therapist
Massage can be the
missing link to your
total health care needs.
I received my massage license in 2002 from the Southern Massage Institute of Collierville. I have 550 hours of specific training in anatomy, physiology and massage technique to prepare myself to help meet your massage needs. Becoming a Massage Therapist has been the best occupation I have ever had. I truly love it and the clients I help every day. I’ve been told I must enjoy what I do. Loving what you do shows in the quality of your work. I meet people everyday, often not knowing what kind of crises or illnesses they may be dealing with along with everyday stress. When I see someone leave smiling and appreciating how I’ve made them feel, that is my greatest reward.
Stress can also cause sleep deprivation and create a lowered resistance to illness.
If you’re feeling overworked, over-
stressed and sleepless, massage can help you relax your mind, body, and increase endorphins (the feel good hormones) and help you return to a normal night’s sleep. Our motto here is “A sound mind, a healthy body and a balanced life.” Massage can help you with all three.
I’m very excited about working at Fit For Life not only because of the healthy/healing environment here, but because everyone here sincerely cares about helping others.

Everyone’s main reason for not exercising? Not enough time. All of us have been there. We have also tried the latest new diet or exercise program that is fool-proof. If you just send in eight payments of $39.95 and you will look just like the thin, tan, super-model spokeswoman. Then you wake up. It’s time to get healthy and fit. That is where I can help!
I have just had two children within the last three years. I did what most women do. Got too busy and got out of shape. I neglected myself and then lost the energy to take good care of the family. I do understand time constraints - believe me. The good news is that working with a personal trainer can make all the difference in the world. First, I create a plan for you so that you don’t feel lost. Second, you will get an extremely high quality workout without doing exercises that waste time. Third, I will be there to help hold you accountable to achieving your fitness and nutritional goals.
The time you take is for your benefit and the benefit of the ones who love you. I’d love to help. Kelly
